This semester, you have created visual arguments, practiced rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and a variety of other skills.

If you had had the chance to learn something that was not covered in the class, what would it be? Do you wish we had spent more time learning spelling and grammar? Do you wish we had read more fiction? Or, do you think the class addressed the appropriate issues for a Composition I class? Use examples, develop your answer, and "reflect" back upon the semester.

Thanks!

I think that in this class it might have been helpful to learn a little more about grammar and spelling. I noticed that when writing my papers I have a problem with spelling simple words like “shoot” and “shot,” these are simple words should be easy to decide which one to use but, I seem to struggle with that. One reason I think I struggle with that is because I try and type so fast to get things done that I don’t think which one I should use. I think this classed helped me a lot though. It helped me to be able to analyze things and use ethos, pathos, and logos. Overall I think it was a helpful class.

I am really glad that we did not spend more time learning spelling and grammar. I think it’s annoying and a hassle to do so. I think that this class addressed the appropriate issues for a Composition 1 class. We covered about everything a Composition class could cover: narrative, visual analysis, movie analysis, spaces analysis, etc. The papers I struggled the most with were the movie analysis and shaping spaces paper. I put too much detail in both of them instead of analyzing. Overall, I learned a lot in this class.

I believe that this class addressed important issues for a Composition 1 class. Visual arguments, rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and other skills will be helpful in future english courses. I haven't had a grammar or spelling class for awhile so I don't think would hurt to touch a little bit more on the subjects. I believe that the subjects that were taught were effective. I will definetly use what I have learned in the future.

I really enjoyed this semester. I was introduced to new forms of expression other the writing. These included the rhetorical and visual analyzing. I found it challenging to articulate Aristotle's three main appeals; ethos, pathos, logos. I also had a hard time making a visual and analyzing other visual texts such as advertisements. I wish we had focused on short stories or non fiction novels because I enjoy reading them and trying to summarize their deeper meaning. Overall this was a great class, I learned a lot and I look forward to the other writing classes I am going to take.Thank you.

I think that overall the class did address the appropriate topics that should be addressed in composition one. I think that when writing our reflection letter for our portfolio it is very easy to give examples of each competency. I do wish that would have spent more time on spelling and grammar. Although I think students should have already obtained these skills from high school, I tend to lack in them greatly. I think that overall the semester went really well for me. English is not a good subject for me and I feel that I succeeded in writing all my papers to the best of my ability. Even though it may have been many drafts later I think that I achieved my potential writing skills.

I think spelling and grammar should be learned in early high school and middle school downward. I loved doing some of the papers that were interesting and made me think. Some of the papers were boring because they didn't mean a lot to me and so I feel as if I didn't do my best or to my full potential. Personaly I think we covered everything we needed to cover in Composition I class. I enjoyed it and thank you for teaching me and pushing me to my limit!!

I believe that it was a good variety of skills that I learned this year. I would have however, liked to learn more vocabulary. Even though I hate to study for vocabulary tests I believe that learning more words can really benefit you in the long run. Going along with learning new words I could always practice my grammar and spelling usage. Overall I believe that we learned a lot of helpful techniques to improve our writing and comprehending skills for further years.

When I first started this class, I was bitter and thought, "the entire class was rediculous." Espacially the blogging. And although I have not shown up to class every day or verbally participated as much as i should have, I learned to apreciate what we were learning and realized what we were learning was vital. Even the blogging has been nice because we can view what our class mates are thinking.

I think the class was well rounded and we did what we were supposed to do. I do wish we would have read more fiction because I find it to be interesting. I thought that the writing process was difficult because I have a hard time expressing my thoughts and feelings in writing. It would have helped me personally to have more structure in the assignments. Specifically to have some sort of formula for writing that we could follow. I also thought that we spent to much time reflecting on what we wrote. It seemed to just end up being an exercise in repetition. It became very tedious, monotous and boring. Don't take that to hard Sarah. Your style of teaching did keep the class at least bearable because the armosphere in class was light hearted and fun.

When I learned I had to take a composition class I thought damn, other boring English class, but I was wrong. I learned that there is more then just writing. Learned how to analysis, visualize, and needless to say how to cite my work cites. There where times that I didn’t understand certain areas but as time went on it all came together. Also I enjoyed Sarah’s style of teaching; she made it fun which I feel we learn more in that kind of atmosphere.Steve

I think there wasn't much of a reason to look into grammar and mechanics because it's redundant. We have learned grammar and mechanics since second grade. I did like however, that you stressed so much the importance on the writing process. I found it much more difficult than I originally thought. I always thought I was a good writer because I can write an essay, however this class showed me there is more to it. You need to write what you see and what you feel something expresses. You need to take these feeling and relay them to others without visuals. I think the atmosphere was interesting and very open and I liked it.
