Week Fourteen Blog

Hello!

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing Thanksgiving break! For this blog, please focus on the topic you want to use for your brochure. What are you arguing?

In this space, write what you know about your topic. Explain its relevance to society and why people should "care" about the topic you have chosen.

The semester is almost over!

I have chosen to do my brochure on the child’s game of tag. People in today society are trying to say that children shouldn’t play tag during school recess, because it is causing them to become injured and then people are getting sued. I don’t think that people should worry about children playing tag at school because it builds their character. When playing this game they learn things like: dealing with problems and solving the problems without running to the teacher. People should care about this topic because this is something that kids like to do and they enjoy doing it so why should we take it away from them?

In my brochure I choose the subject of Recess in general. I am showing the pros and cons of schools having recess or taking it away. Obesity in schools has gotten bad because of the food they serve in the amounts and not enough time to sweat it off. In a source I found children are required to have at least sixty minutes of playing time to work off what the school fed them. The only problem of having recess for some schools is the teachers standing outside watching the kids play so that there isn’t any trouble. When I was in grade school kindergarden to third grade would go outside and play, but there was only one to two teachers out there watching us and problems were everywhere, and it is the same to this day. Kids are getting hurt from playing, such as broken arms and legs. Parents then are getting the schools for what they are worth and more because the parents can not pay the hospital bills.

The topic I have chose is if tag should be able to be played at school, or restricted to home. My stance on this I think that tag should be allowed to be played at schools. I think that children are going to get hurt no matter what they do at recess. Also, if we restrict a simple game what else are we going to take away from our children. We can not protect children from all the harms in the world. Think about our parent’s childhoods. They didn’t wear helmets when they rode bikes. They played outside for hours. I understand the other side that tag can result in law suits for the school. But I just think that tag is such a simple game played by all youth that you can not take away from them. I also go into talking about the obesity rates in children and how tag can help minimize that.

America and most people don’t see why we would help children from a different country when there are some many children here that need help too. I believe that this is an important subject to society, because Russia children that are put in orphanages don't have a chance in society if they never get adopted; which is different from American children in the foster care system. I just want people to learn more and think about helping change a life and give a chance to children that would never get one.

I chose to do my major for my brochure. Civil Engineering Technology is my major. I am arguing that DMACC is the best two year college for my major. They offer all the classes, great teachers, and tutors. They put you into jobs right after college and they pay well. They will teach you how to become skilled in your job. DMACC is the place to be if you want to go into Civil Engineering Technolgy.

I chose to write my brochure about children's safety on the playgrounds. In my brochure I stated that many schools are banning recess to raise test scores and prevent injuries and lawsuits. I also said that 15% of children are obese. How are kids going to get exercise if recess is banned? I also stated that while the people wo believe in banning recess are well intentioned, how much protection is too much?

The topic I have chosen for my brochure is abortion. It is a topic that many people do not like to discuss in detail because the truth hurts. That is all the more reason for it to be discussed. No one wants to talk about sad and depressing things, but the truth is, it is a growing issue and people are taking it more and more lightly because it is such a comon decision. I believe abortion is wrong and therefore I am going to educate my reader on why I belive that.-Brooke Kvach

The topic I chose is why there is hunger in Iowa. Iowa is rich in agriculture and yet there is hunger. We hear about other countries and the starvation and hunger that are a growing concern and yet we do not hear much about hunger in Iowa. I hope in this brochure that this will awaken society to the growing problem that continues to grow Iowa. Steve

I decided to do my brochure on homelessness in the U.S. This is an important topic for all U.S. citizens because of the monetary burden that is placed on our society. It is also a moral issue that needs to be addressed because a lot of these people have mental health issues or addictions of some kind.

For my brochure, I decided to write about Facebook. Facebook is a college-based personal forum. People make there own page that describe themselves, their lives and likes. According to one of my sources, Facebook has over 30 million members and continues to grow. It's populartiy is expanding and many people don't look at is as a threat. According to Facebook's privacy disclosure statement, they state your information can/ will be made public for certain reasons. Also many people join facebook, and whose to say they are good people you want to be associated with. Lastly, anyone can upload photos and attach anybody's names to them. This could be potentially embarrassing for one and give them a bad reputation. Facebook is a good way to keep in touch with others, however people need to remember it is still an internet site with possible threats.
